Book Recommendations Part 2

“Books are a traveling machine! They take you to the past or the future or somewhere in between. They take you to places no passport can take you to, and areas no one knows about.”

The Yearling

Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings

Classic

This is one of those books that will always hold a very soft spot in my heart. It’s the story of a boy who goes through profound joy, adventure, and heartbreak until he becomes a man. By the way, it’s so good that it had to be translated into 22 different languages!

Elizabeth Street

Laurie Fabiano

Historical Fiction (based on true)

This enthralling novel will give you a picture of what life was like for an Italian immigrant family. Full of excitement, fear, and turmoil, this story will challenge you to a different perspective on underprivileged people groups.

Surviving the Tech Tsunami

Gary Miller

Inspirational

Do you ever wonder how to deal with all the technology rushing at us in this day and age? In this book, Gary Miller informs and challenges people to rightly handle the technology in their lives.

My Name is Mahtob

Mahtob Mahmoody

Autobiography

This is a captivating autobiography about a kidnapping, escape, and recovery. It has a focus on Muslims and Middle Eastern culture, which I find very interesting.

Beautiful Child

Torey Hayden

Nonfiction

I put this book on here simply because I didn’t have space for all the books by this author. They are all about how the author helped extremely needy children. After reading these books I am always a little depressed and challenged. They are part of what convinced me to become a teacher.

Adore

Sarah Hagerty

Inspirational

This book will push you to discover who God really is and what He means to you personally.

The Privilege of Youth

Dave Pelzer

Autobiography

My little sister would read this book at night and laugh and laugh. I just couldn’t wait until she was finished so I could read it! Sequel to “A Child Called It”, this book a must-read! It is a mix of humor, heartbreak, and hope.

Love Does

Bob Goff

Inspirational

My dad recommended this book for us to read. It is so encouraging and challenging. God wants to use us and have us as participants in building His kingdom and being His hands and feet. Real Friends don’t just talk, they do! If I am like Jesus I will act in love. Love Does!!! Read this book, my friends. I’m not actually finished with it, but have been so inspired. Bob does use unique stories, but pulls out such great things!

Saving My Assassin

Virginia Prodan

Autobiography

This is a very compelling book. It is about a courageous woman who was willing to sacrifice everything for Jesus. This book will keep you turning pages! I was very challenged after I read it.

My Sergei

Ekaterina Gordeeva

Nonfiction

This is a true story written by an Olympic skater about her and her husband’s lives. It ends in a tragic way that makes you fall in love with the book! I have been interested in the lives of these skaters for a long time, and therefore I was highly excited when I found this book!

I get sad every time I hear a person say, “I don’t like to read.” It’s like saying, “I don’t learn,” or, “I don’t laugh,” or, “I don’t live.”
